En massiv jordbävning på 7.3 drabbar Hualien, Taiwan; Tsunamivarningar utfärdade

At 7:58 AM (Taiwan local time), on April 3rd, 2024, the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs publicly announced a magnitude 7.3 earthquake occurred in the city of Hualien on the eastern island of Taiwan, 160 kilometers away from Taipei. Taiwanese citizens were able to feel the quake.

According to the Thailand Trade and Economic Office (Taipei), there were no immediate reports of Thai casualties or injuries at press time. The Taiwan Meteorological Department issued a tsunami warning announcement to locals near the coast to be careful of sudden high waves but as of press time no tsunami had emerged.

Furthermore, the Japan Meteorological Department issued tsunami warning announcements to locals on Okinawa Island, Miyakojima Island, and the Yaeyama Islands. However, the Japanese government eventually lifted the announcement of the tsunami varning.

According to a recent report from the Taiwan Fire Department, there was one casualty and more than 50 injuries reported from the massive earthquake.
